4 Marketing Plan

Chapter 4
Marketing Plan

Now this is where it gets tricky, now you know what your customers are searching for, you need to determine how to best reach them. This is part of your marketing plan where your choices are many and generally your budget is slim and hopefully you’ve had some experience.

So how are you going to market to your consumer?  Use the Internet to market to your customers or are you going to use conventional marketing methods (newspaper, Yellow Pages, Pennysaver, handing out flyers / coupons) or are you going to use multiple methods, which is best, if you can afford it.

If you’re an Internet business let’s face it the only thing you need to do is advertise on the Internet. However there have been some Internet marketers that have had some success with postcards, radio and or podcasts, this is also a good choice and video has made its way as the choice of the leading internet marketers. YouTube videos are not the only host for your videos. Keep in mind that there is a number of video sharing sites now so YouTube is not a must have.

Remember that the most of larger retailers advertise every day, week and month. And they advertise in many different ways.

Once you have decided which method or methods you’re going to use to start with, you need to set yourself an obtainable goal of number of sales that you think you can make. This does not have to be an exact count, just a starting point.

You want to keep this goal realistic but you also want to make yourself reach for it. In other words, you want to set a goal that will force you to work hard to achieve it but not cause you to become frustrated because you can’t reach it and quit.

As you go forward you might have to readjust your goal higher or lower depending on how the year is going. Don’t be depressed if you have to lower your goal; there’s no shame in that. The shame would be not adjusting it and punishing yourself because you missed your goal.

This might be a good time to mention, as you implement one strategy of advertising your product or service, you want to keep adding other methods as time goes along to increase your market penetration. Start all campaigns on the same day of the week. Most businesses have a typical daily or weekly cycle that makes this starting time important.

Now that you have implemented your marketing plan, the first time, it is now time to review what you have done and how successful you have been, so that you can make the changes that need to be made to your marketing campaign so that it will be more successful in the future.

Might make a footnote here, don’t wait till the end of the year to make changes to your marketing plan, look at what’s going on in the first month, or week. If you make changes often be sure not to make too drastic of changes that often unless one of your methods bombs totally and it may take days to see a total bomb.

Keep changes as small as possible, save your major changes for the end of the week or end of the month, so that you are starting off the new month or week with a new plan/method.
This will help keep you on track for reaching your ultimate goal by the end of the year.

Keep track (records, records, records) of what and how you are doing. This is the best way of seeing how well you are doing and what method is working best. It is important that you keep records, so that you know exactly what is working or not.

Your marketing plan has to go much deeper, it should be every detail including what you need to do each day and what your goals are and how you’ll achieve those goals.

The better records that you keep will help you make money faster, and sure you have to implement your plan to make it work more than anything.

Don’t just plan, DO the PLAN!      Test and Tweek.
